CONFERENCE VENUE

The marine station of IFREMER is in Sète 87 Av. Jean Monnet, 34200 Sète

Sète is 180 km from Marseille and 380 km from Monaco (East), 320 km from Barcelona (South-West), and 220 km from Toulouse (West). Its port is the leading fishing port in the Mediterranean, thanks to its fish auction market, and its fleet of Bluefin tuna seiners, trawlers, as well as small-scale net fishing at sea and in the pond (https://en.tourisme-sete.com/). It has 3372 hours of sunshine a year on average. According to the New York Times, Sète  has been a fishing center since Louis XIV authorized a port here in 1655. An enclave of 45,000 people in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, it is built around a hill, with the sea on one side, a lagoon on the other and a network of canals joining them. Paul Valéry, who was born and is buried here, immortalized Sète in his poetry; the singer and composer Georges Brassens, another native, wrote and sang a catchy tune about it that seems to be played just about everywhere at least once a day.

The conference will take place in the Marine station of IFREMER in Sète. IFREMER Station is situated between the Mediterranean sea and the lagoon of Thau at 4 km (40 min walking time and 15 min by bus) from the centre of Sète and 500 m from the Sète’s Lido Beach.

COVID 19: International travel and coming to France

For travellers that are vaccinated as required by European regulations, no test is required on departure. Proof of complete vaccination is sufficient to enter France, regardless of the country of origin, as was the case before the appearance of the Omicron variant.

For unvaccinated travellers, there is an obligation to present a negative test to travel to France.  The measures on arrival (test, isolation) are lifted when the person comes from countries on the "green" list, characterized by a moderate level of viral infection.

When unvaccinated travellers come from a country on the "orange" list, they must present a compelling reason that justifies the need to enter mainland France and may still be subject to a random test on arrival. Travellers who test positive will have to isolate themselves, in accordance with the recommendations of the Health Insurance.
